Mutton Curry Bunny Chow


Bunny chow is a South African fast food dish that originated in the Indian community of Durban. It consists of a hollowed-out loaf of bread filled with curry. The filling can vary, but it typically includes curry made with meat (such as chicken, beef, or lamb) or vegetables. The hollowed-out bread serves as a convenient edible container for the curry, making it easy to eat on the go. It's a popular and flavorful street food in South Africa, enjoyed by people of all backgrounds.


Ingredients:

  • 500g mutton, cubed

  • 2 onions, finely chopped

  • 3 tomatoes, chopped

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 inch ginger, minced

  • 2 tablespoons curry powder

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin

  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander

  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

  • Salt to taste

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

  • 4 small loaves of bread (hollowed out)

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a large pot and sauté onions until golden brown.

  2. Add garlic and ginger, cook for 1 minute.

  3. Add mutton pieces, cook until browned.

  4. Stir in curry powder, turmeric, cumin, coriander, chili powder, and salt.

  5. Add chopped tomatoes and simmer until mutton is tender.

  6. Once cooked, scoop out the centers of the bread loaves to create bowls.

  7. Fill each bread bowl with the mutton curry.

  8. Serve hot, garnished with chopped coriander
